Modern Courtyard Garden
As seen in Homebuilding & Renovating.
For this walled garden, the client wanted to create a stylish, low-maintenance outdoor space that they could unwind in at the end of the day. They wanted the space to feel sophisticated and act as an extension of their home.
Located within a built-up area, one of the top priorities was to create more privacy from the neighbouring properties. To do this, we introduced pleached trees and a strategically placed feature tree to screen views into and out of the garden. We also used sections of evergreen Yew hedging to soften the large amount of brick walling around the boundaries.
Using a combination of hard landscaping details and planted borders to structure the space, we created three newly defined zones, while maintaining a natural sense of flow into and around the space. Double doors from the house now lead out to a modern dining table and chairs, with a comfortable corner sofa behind and an outdoor kitchen to the left, complete with a fridge and sheltered by a louvred metal pergola.
The final result is a private, functional, and refined outdoor space where the Client can enjoy hosting friends and spending more time outdoors.
