Project

Garden With A View

This small, new-build garden began as a plain lawn, a square patio, and a tall fence. It was an uninspiring space with little to no character, and the brief was simple; to create a more inviting garden for people and wildlife, and somewhere the client could enjoy gardening and a cup of tea or glass of wine.

The design was equally straightforward, but with high-impact results. It was less about what we added, but rather what we took away - the rear boundary fence.

By replacing it with a low stone wall and black metal railings, we revealed sweeping views of the expansive rolling landscape beyond, making the garden feel instantly, and infinitely, larger. Utilising these 'borrowed' views, we gave the space a new sense of openness and connection to its surroundings.

Alongside this impressive new focal point, we upgraded the existing patio and added a second seating area, accessed via stepping stones across the lawn. A wildlife-friendly planting scheme, including a pear tree and low evergreen hedging, also helps frame the view and connect the garden to the wider landscape. Though simple in design and layout, the transformation is striking and will only grow stronger over time as it matures.
