Family Wellness Garden
As seen in Homes and Gardens and Homebuilding & Renovating.
This garden transformation was part of a full property renovation for a growing family. To compliment their new home, we created a multi-functional outdoor retreat for relaxing, entertaining, and play. The family, who are passionate about health and fitness, were keen to add a wellness area to their existing garden gym. It was also important to include a dedicated space for their children to play and a sociable hub where they could host friends and family.
The design features a split-level patio terrace off the back of the house, where large bi-fold doors lead out from the kitchen. The upper terrace, with elevated views down the garden, has a spacious lounge area with pleached trees on either side for privacy and a log store for easy access to firewood during the winter months. A few steps down takes you to the outdoor dining area, complete with an L-shaped outdoor kitchen, under a louvered metal pergola, surrounded by lush planting to create a space that feels immersive and secluded.
Further into the garden, bands of structural planting and new ornamental trees have been used to define a series of spaces, each offering something different. A large lawn, framed with raised borders, partially screens a 'hidden' play area for the children featuring a slide, swings and play tower. Beyond, at the far end of the garden, is the all important wellness area, complete with a barrel sauna, ice bath, wooden hot tub and raised decking for sun loungers. Perfect for recovering after time in the gym!
