Project

Classic Cottage Garden

Designed for a keen gardener, on this project we set out to create a plant-focused space full of colour and seasonal interest. The transformation involved removing a derelict garage, which opened up views from the house and made the garden feel much larger with new possibilities.

Inspired by the client's love of the classic cottage-style, the design features organic, curving paths and borders filled with traditional herbaceous perennials. Restored dry-stone retaining walls form raised beds that add character and provide valuable shelter for smaller wildlife. Near the house, a sunny seating area offers the perfect spot for a morning coffee. A second seating area, nestled within the planting towards the rear of the garden, catches the afternoon sun. Accessed via a stepping stone path and through a rose-covered archway, it provides a more secluded place to enjoy later in the day.

In the far corner, more shade-loving plants have been introduced with new trees that will add increasing amounts of dappled shade and wildlife value over time. Practical features, including a screened bin store, shed, and water butt, have been neatly positioned near the house for easy access to tools and supplies. Calm, colourful and immersive, this garden is now an uplifting space to look out on and spend time in.
