Behind the designs
Inspired by a love of quiet luxury and the next adventure.
A letter from Rosie on her personal and professional background as a landscape architect.
I've always enjoyed exploring new places. Whether an expansive mountain landscape dotted with alpine huts or a path on a local heathland I haven't taken before. For me, it's about discovery and connection, which feeds directly into my work.
With a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Sheffield, one of the world's leading courses, I have been fortunate to learn from some of the best in the industry, including Nigel Dunnett and James Hitchmough. Since then, I’ve worked alongside some of the UK’s top garden designers and was recognised as one of Pro Landscaper’s 30 Under 30 in 2022.
My approach to design is shaped by my Scandinavian heritage, a lifelong love of the outdoors, and my background in elite sport. My mum, a Dane who grew up in Kenya, has been a significant source of inspiration for me. Her experience and understanding of different cultures is evident in her creativity, style and resourcefulness, which has instilled in me a love for simplicity, natural materials and innovation.
Being active and spending time outdoors has also been a key part of my life and has led to my passion and appreciation for the impact our surroundings have on our quality of life. I believe the value of an outdoor space goes far beyond its appearance. For me, the most valuable outdoor spaces are those that feel immersive and uplifting. Places that invite us to sit, observe, play and explore, unlocking a pure sense of freedom and adventure.
As a designer, my process is always evolving in response to the people, places and events that impact me. At its core, my style is grounded in traditional Scandinavian design principles but it is continually enriched by other diverse sources of influence, from cultural connections to travelled and lived experiences. This gives me an intuitive and adaptable way of working that enables me to design in a variety of styles, exploring new ideas with an open mind to create spaces that are responsive to their surroundings and resonate on a personal level.
Central to Scandinavian design is its reputation for balancing style with usability, placing as much emphasis on the process as the outcome. This is a core value that I also incorporate into my own work. From the initial consultation to the finished result, every step and space is carefully considered to be as functional as it is beautiful, suited to real life and tailored to the people who use them.
Being able to combine my personal values and interests with my work is a real privilege. Together with my training and experience, it allows me to bring not only knowledge and expertise, but also genuine passion and enthusiasm to what I do – creating outdoor spaces that positively impact the way we live.
